Vietnam- Japan Estuary Workshop

The ¡°Vietnam- Japan Estuary Workshop¡± was jointly hosted by Water Resources University, Vietnam and Department of Civil Engineering, Tohoku University, Japan on 22nd to 24th August, 2006. More than 150 scientists and engineers participated in order to exchange their knowledge and experiences related estuarine issues.
The workshop was opened by Chairman, Professor Hitoshi Tanaka, Tohoku University, Japan. The program began with three key-note lectures by Professor Hitoshi Tanaka, Professor Akira Mano (from Tohoku University, Japan) and Associate Professor Vu Minh Cat (Water Resources University, Vietnam WRU). Moreover, 24 papers were presented in six parallel sessions covering different areas such as coastal engineering; hydraulics and sediment transport, estuarine management and environment.
The workshop was closed by a speech from Professor Dao Xuan Hoc, rector of WRU. On be half of WRU, Professor Dao Xuan Hoc, bring a thanking message to all participants who just dedicated their contributions to Vietnam-Japan Estuary Workshop.
After one day working in the workshop halls, a technical tour was organized to visit a RAMSAR wetland zone, estuaries and sea dyke systems in Nam Dinh Province, which is about 150 km far from Hanoi.
Finally, the Proceedings of ¡°Vietnam ¨C Japan Estuary Workshop 2006¡± have been published by Tohoku University and Water Resources University. Members who missed the workshop may visit the following website to seize detailed information:
