IAHR Hong Kong Chapter and IAHR China Chapter visited Xinjiang
A delegation consisted of 17 members from IAHR Hong Kong Chapter and IAHR China Chapter visited Xinjiang in September 2007. The delegation was met by the leaders of Xinjiang Agriculture University and Xinjiang Water Resources Bureau. Prof Joseph Lee delivered a lecture to the University students on a topic of environment engineering and sustainable development – a case study of clarification Hong Kong Seaport, which obtained ovation from students and teachers. Discussion was made on the future exchange of the two sides between Hong Kong University and Xijiang Agriculture University. The Xinjiang Water Resources Bureau gave an introduction to the delegation on the Xinjing water resources development. Being guided by the local water resources department officers, the delegation paid a visit to the Jichang County irrigation canal and drip irrigation system in cotton field give audience to local officers on introduction of wetland rehabilitation measures. The delegation also visited the Turpan Ghanat Museum, which show great achievements in applying the long-history traditional technology in this region. During the visit. The delegation also enjoyed beautiful landscape of Xinjiang Tianchi lake and Kanas lake.
