Launching of the IAHR-Korea Chapter
On September 2007, the Korean IAHR members of about 60 persons established the IAHR-Korea Chapter. What we intended from this establishment is to promote the IAHR and IAHR-Korea activities among potential IAHR members as well as the existing members in Korea, to conduct our IAHR-related activities effectively by systematic maneuvers and to eventually promote the knowledge and experience of hydraulic engineering and research among ‘water’ engineers in Korea and thus contribute to our society with our professions.
The main tasks of the IAHR-Korea Chapter, among others, are as follows:
- To organize conferences, seminars and symposiums on hydraulic engineering and research in Korea
- To recommend key persons in Korea to the various levels of IAHR and IAHR-APD organizations
- To conduct works related to the Journal of Hydro-Environment Research (JHER), a one-year old journal published by IAHR-APD)Asia-Pacific Division) and sponsored by KWRA(Korea Water Resources Association) and other IAHR activities in Korea.
The key persons for the IAHR-Korea Chapter, who have been elected by the IAHR members in Korea, are as follows:
- Chairman: Dr. Hyoseop Woo, KICT (Korea Institute of Construction Technology)
- Vice Chairman for geophysical hydraulics: Prof. Il Won Seo, Seoul National University
- Vice Chairman for coastal hydraulics: Prof. Young Sik Cho, Hanyang University
