Minute of IAHR-APD ExCo Meeting in Seoul, Sept. 15, 2005-12-7
On the Occasion of the XXXI IAHR Congress in Seoul Sept. 2005, a part of IAHR-APD ExCo members met together to have a meeting to discuss a few things related to APD affairs in the Morning of Sept. 15, lasting about 1.5 hours. 8 persons took part in this meeting, they are: Prof. N. Tamail, Prof. Guifen Li, Prof. Jong Kyu Lee, Prof. Hitishi Tanaka, Prof. Zhaoyin Wang, Dr. F. Yazdandoost, Prof. Lianxiang Wang and Dr. K. Murali(representative of Prof. V. Sundar). Due to absence of Prof. J H-W Lee, the Chairman of APD, Prof. L X Wang chaired the meeting. The issues addressed and discussed are listed in the following:
1. IAHR-APD network system and Email approach should be improved, in order to enhance communication and exchange among IAHR members in Asian and Pacific Region.
2. Prof. Tamai and prof. J K Lee reported that the Journal of APD will be financially supported by KWRA for 5 years. Most of the ExCo members presented here agreed the Journal’s title of “ Asian Water” would be OK.
3. Dr K Murali briefly introduced their preparation work of 15th IAHR-APD Congress. LOC of the congress welcome all the APD ExCo members to participate the congress. About 250 participants are expected.
Prof. N Tamai hoped accommodation for the congress participants would have wide range, from 5 stars hotel to guest house.
Prof. Z Y Wang suggested the congress topics should be wider, for example, river hydraulics and natural hazard could added be in.
4. It was decided in the meeting that the 16th IAHR-APD Congress in 2008 will be in Nanjing, China, hosted by Hohai University.
5. Prof. Z Y Wang reported that a field trip was jointly organized By WASER (World Association of Sediment and Erosion Research) and APD took place in Hubei Province, China, in August 2005. 24 participants (17 outside of China and 7 Chinese) visited the Three Gorges project and Gezhouba Project. Both J H-W Lee and Z Y Wang gave lectures to the participants, together with other Senior Experts from the projects.
Next field trip is to be organized during June 2006 to visit Yellow River, including Hukou waterfall, Xiaolangdi Project and XiAn city.
Prof. N Tamai suggested that this kind of activities could be combined with other international organizations’ program, such as ICOLD.
Following the ExCo meeting, APD family meeting was held.
