Abstract: The variability of the flow rate in mini-hydro plants is one of the major sources of energy dissipation and efficiency reduction. A new Regulation System for Power Recovery System (PRS) turbines, able to maintain good efficiencies working within a large range of flow rates, is proposed. This is accomplished by changing the present flap regulation system with a new device component moving in linear direction in order to reduce the normal cross flow section of the nozzle. The energy dissipation due to the change of the section is minimized with a smooth shape of the new component. The expansion of the flow rate inside the runner is controlled with the use of the baffles dividing the total width of the runner in several parts.
