Abstract: Treating greywater in urban areas has become increasingly essential due to rapid population growth and industrialization. Urban greywater, originating from household activities, carries various pollutants, including microplastics (MPs). The conventional wastewater treatment processes are not designed to remove microplastics and hence these particles enter water bodies through treated effluent discharge, and creates various threats to aquatic life and human health. Electrocoagulation (EC) has emerged as a promising method for removing MPs from greywater. This study focuses on optimizing key parameters, including electrode material, pH and electrolyte concentration, to enhance the removal efficiency of polystyrene (PS) MPs. A removal efficiency of 96.21% was obtained for optimized conditions, demonstrating its potential as an effective solution for removing PS microplastics from urban greywater systems.
