Abstract: In order to find out the influence law of changed environments on the utilization of water resources in the humid plain of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, this paper identified quantitatively the main factors influencing irrigation water demand (IWD), with the methods of hydrology and water resources and the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI), and revealed the influence law of different factors on IWD in the Jianghan Plain. The research showed that the IWD in study area has increased by 8.11×108m3 during the period from 2000 to 2020, mainly distributed in the central and southeastern areas including Qianjiang, Jianli and Honghu. The contribution of planting structure was the largest with 27.41×108m3, which was the main factor to promote the growth of IWD. The planting scale also promoted the IWD, with the contribution of 26.02×108m3. Climate variability and water-saving reconstructure restrained the growth of IWD, and their contributions were -26.95×108m3 and -18.36×108m3, respectively. This study has important reference value and guiding significance for revealing the interaction between IWD and the changed environments, further optimizing the allocation of water resources and the layout of water projects.
