Abstract: It is well known that the shell type roller gate vibrates under the small opening and submerged under-f 1ow conditions. This report is a summary of the results from three dimensional experiment on the self-excited vibration of shell type roller gate. This work has been done under the technical committee of Japan water gate and penstock association. This committee has made three tasks on the self-excited vibration on this type of gate such as l) collecting the field data of prototype gate and analysis of these data, (12d) two dimensional model test and 3) three dimensional model test. The main part of this report is designing of dynamic simi-larity model and the results of model test in first step such as determining the region of se1f-excited vibration arises.
