Abstract: Narrow open channel flows are common in engineering applications like irrigation canals and stormwater drainage systems. Experimental studies (Sarkar, 2016; Mahananda et al., 2022) have investigated turbulent flow in these channels. Dey and Dey (2014) classified channels as narrow (b/h < 5) or wide (b/h > 10) based on aspect ratio. Chow (1959) noted that narrow channels develop strong secondary currents, causing higher velocities near the free surface and deviating from the log-wake law, known as the dip phenomenon. Yang et al. (2005) observed less resistance away from the sidewalls, resulting in higher central velocities. Mahananda et al. (2022) reported decreasing turbulence intensities at mid-depth, indicating isotropic turbulence as flow develops in narrow channels. The objective of this study is to present the three-dimensional time average velocities over sand beds in a narrow channel and compare the streamwise velocities with analytical approach.
