Abstract: There is no single distribution proposed for the drought frequency analysis. Further, no previous investigation have specifically examined the effect of the snow cover of the basin on the annual minimum flow. In this study, one day, seven day and thirty day annual minimum flow taking the effect of the snow cover on the basin into account in the Nepalese river system were used for the analysis. The criteria used to investigate a suitable distribution were Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test for the goodness of fit, root mean square error and bias. It was found from the study that GEV distribution with PWM method of parameter estimation is more suitable for drought analysis in Nepal regardless the region and the source of flow i. e., snowfed and rainfed or purely rainfed.
