University of Napoli Federico II
About
The scientific focus of Prof. Carlo Gualtieri (University of Napoli Federico II, Italy) is Environmental Hydraulics. He studied the exchange processes across the environmental interfaces (air-entrainment, hyporheic fluxes, turbulent diffusion) through laboratory experiments and numerical simulations. In the last decade his main research area was the study, in cooperation with many foreign scholars, of hydrodynamics, morphodynamics and sediment transport in large-size rivers and confluences, such as Amazon, Congo, Orinoco, Yangtze, and Yarlung Zangbo-Brahamaputra, using a combination of field investigation and remote sensing imagery. He is author or co-author of about 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts published in international scientific journals or in the proceedings of international conferences. He serves as Associate Editor for Water Resources Research and Environmental Modelling & Software.
Career Type:
Scientist/Researcher/Academic
Organization Type:
Universities and Academia
Expertise Fields/Interests:
My research/teaching focus is Environmental Hydraulics (EH). In past years, I worked to exchange processes across the air-water interface (reaeration, dropshaft, hydraulic jump) and to positive surges and aquaculture fishnets. Then, I applied CFD methods to complex EH flows (water tanks, dead zones, hyporheic flows, anaerobic digester, spillways). In the last years I was involved in field-based studies in the Amazon, Congo, Orinoco, Volga, Yangtze, Yarlung Zangbo and Yellow River basins.
