Dr. Waqar is a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Applied Research Center for Metrology, Stan,dards and Testing, Research Institute at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Prior to his current affiliation, he was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from HKUST in 2022 and was a recipient of the RedBird Academic Excellence Award for Continuing Ph.D. Students. Recently, Dr. Waqar also received a Gold Award in the Global AI Challenge for Building E&M Facilities from EMSD, Hong Kong. Dr. Waqar’s research focuses on the analysis of hydraulic transient waves in pressurized pipelines and the development of efficient, low-cost, and noise-effective pipeline defect detection techniques. During his Ph.D., Dr. Waqar explored the novel concept of time reversal (TR) of water-hammer waves and unveil the paradoxical problem of TR of waves in a damped environment. He also developed and patented the TR technique to detect multiple defects (e.g., leaks, blockages, etc.).
