Abstract: A finite volume based method with varying grid size has been developed to solve the1-D advective-diffusion equation and has been applied to predict suspended sediment concentration distributions in open channel flows. In the model the concentration of suspended sediments at each face of any control volume is represented in the advective terms by means of a refined version of the highly accurate ULTIMATE QUICKEST scheme. The model has been applied to two laboratory studies and comparisons between numerical model predictions and measured data are presented herein.
