Abstract: Simplified versions of the set of equations describing the morphological behaviour of rivers with non uniform bed material are treated in this paper. The difficulties arising in order to produce solutions that respect general forms of the initial and boundary conditions are briefly discussed. The case of a perturbed river at very low Froude numbers is solved and discussed using the rigid-lid approximation.
