Abstract: The topic of Global Water Security (GWS) came to the foreground during the various World Water Forumevents taking place in the years 2006 (WWF Mexico), 2009 (WWF Istanbul), and 2012 (WWF Marseille).Based on the outcomes of these events, UN-WATER drafted a document and working definition, as illus-trated in Figure 12. This definition includes all aspects of the water cycle from ‘source to sea’, and includestopics of relevance to IAHR members with an interest in: floods, droughts, water pollution, ecosystemsservices, water trading (through virtual water) etc.
