Abstract: Energy dissipation over block ramps is mainly due to the strong interaction between free surface and bed materials. High slopes and large surface irregularity helps in air entrainment process, leading to the development of different flow characteristics. Up to date, the studies on air-water flow characteristics on rock chutes are very limited. Experimental studies have been conducted in a long rock chute assembled at PITLAB centre of University of Pisa. Detailed air-water flow characteristics were measured for several flow rates using a highly sensitive conductivity probe. Observations revealed new information on air-water flow properties over selected stones of the rock chute.
