Abstract: A computer model is presented to simulate the ice processes in open channel systems. The discharge and floW depth are determined by one-dimensiQnal unsteady floW equations. A generalized two-Iayer model is developed to calculate the distributions of the water temperature and ice concentration, the ice transport and thermal growth and decay of floating ice pan and ice Cover. The characteristic method is introduced to Solve the partial derivative equations for the ice processes.
