Abstract: Water is a value resource, which needs to be managed carefully. In Portugal this is a relevant issue, namely due to the climate restrictions and evolution over the last years. In order to manage water use, the main determinants of consumption should be studied, and a model is relevant to explain those factors. To achieve this objective an ordinary least squares (OLS) regression model and a geographically weighted regression (GWR) are proposed. The models were implemented in the 278 municipalities of continental Portugal, considering the average situation of the last decade. The results showed promising results, identifying the main explaining factors for water consumption in the municipalities.
