Abstract: Heatwaves pose a significant concern within the context of climate change, exerting impacts on various sectors including human health, agriculture, and ecosystems. A comprehensive understanding of the spatiotemporal patterns of heatwaves is crucial for the development of effective adaptation strategies. This extended abstract presents the findings of a study that investigates the spatiotemporal patterns of heatwaves in Portugal from 1980 to 2021, utilising a validated ERA5-Land dataset. The objective of this research is to enhance the understanding of heatwave occurrence and intensity in the region while examining their potential trends in terms of heatwave days per year.
