Abstract: As coral reefs face extinction due to climate change and anthropogenic activities, developing methods to mitigate the effects of pollutants by manipulating marine hydrodynamics is crucial. In this study, inspired by the living mechanisms and external forms of marine sponges, two biomimetic sponges -- tubular and hemispherical -- were designed. These sponges utilized a suction mechanism (through body pores) and a pumping mechanism (from the top outlet) to alter flow hydrodynamics. The results indicate that the tubular shape has the potential to generate a von Karman vortex street. In contrast, the hemispherical shape reduces the re-circulation bubbles' size and diminishes the reverse flow's magnitude.
