Abstract: The scouring process of landslide dam failures greatly influences the downstream riverbed evolution and flood-causing processes, and influences downstream disaster mitigation decisions. However, current numerical models are less involved on this. In this study, a new calculation method of side-slope collapse and diversion channel scour process is proposed, which in turn establishes a numerical model. And the ‘11.03’ Baige landslide dam in 2018 was studied as an example. The results show that the model results satisfy the accuracy requirements of hydrological forecasting. The amount of sand scoured calculated by the model is close to the actual situation, indicating that the results of the study are satisfactory. The developed model is able to predict the flooding process as well as provide a basis for the estimation of the landslide dam body scour volume and the calculation of the downstream riverbed evolution in floods.
