Abstract: On designing favorable river environments, more information of flood flow in rivers with flood plain (compound channel) or with vegetated zone is desired. Vegetated region is a kind of porous flood plain, but the turbulence structure and subsequent resistance characteristics offlow in channel with vegetated zone is quite different from that in compound channel. In this study, the flows in compound channel and channel with vegetated zone are compared with each other by fundam ental experiments with turbulence measurements. Furtherm ore, suchflows are numerically analyzed with an algebraic stress model of turbulence (Launder-Ying model). Through these investigations, the difference offlow structures between compound channel and channel with vegetated zone is clarified.
