Abstract: In order to predict water level of flood flow in river courses with vegetation, depth averaged transverse elocity distribution was determined using continuity equation and equations of motion that incorporate the esistance of the dead-water region produced by vegetation and resistance produced by interference between egetation and the main flow. Longitudinal water level profile was then calculated from momentum equations erived for sections divided in accordance with the distribution of vegetation and this depth-averaged ransverse velocity distribution. The validity of these equations for velocity distributions and longitudinal ater level profile was then confirmed using flood data for the Ishikari river.
