Rural Water Supply Development in Semi-Arid Land

Abstract: The rate of water consumption is affected by climate and ecological factors. In semi-arid land, the population density is very low and the cost per capita of water supply schemes in these areas is considerably higher than elsewhere, assuming the same degree of services. As the readily available water sources for rural water demand appears to have already been committed, an integrated approach to the development of water sources will be necessary to meet the requirement of major water demand to avoid competition and conflict in water use and to optimize the use of limited water resources.
