Abstract: Estimation of the runoff hydrograph due to a rainfall event is a fundamental problem in hydrology. Calibration of the model used, however, is often a problem. Each rainfall-runoff event gives a different set of fitting parameters. Artificial neural networks may alleviate some of the problems because they provide a method which includes a fitting scheme as a fundamental part of the model.
