Prediction of the Stable Form of Meandering Channels

Abstract: The development of a numerical model to predict the stable form of meandering channels is presented. The model makes use of well-known relationships in river mechanics and achieves closure through the extremal hypotheses of Chang and a new model for the outside bank slope. The model is shown to be robust and to be a useful tool in the assessment of existing river stability and in the design of stable meandering streams.
