Abstract: A mathematical model was developed for the simulation of erosion and deposition processes in streams with highly variable flow regimes and irregular cross-sections. The model accounts for the transport of graded material in non-equilibrium conditions. It uses a single representative bed material diameter, instead of considering explicitly the sediment transport for individual size-fractions. Nevertheless, by using a loading law and Gessler's method, the model enables the analysis of temporal and spatial evolution of the granulometric curve of the bed material. Verification was made with data from Mondego ri (Portugal). A complete evaluation of sorting and armoring procedures was not possible due to the lack of a complete set of field data. So, model results are presented and discussed in the framework of different scenarios made for input data, showing reasonably good agreement with the observed data.
