Abstract: Recently vegetation in rivers are often preserved to provide favorable environments. During floods, the flow is forced to penetrate into the vegetation area but the high resistance discharges the flow in vegetated zone toward the main channel. In such a complicated condition of flow, the sediment transport process is also degenerated, and imbalance of sediment causes the river morphological change. In this study, the flow and the bed-load transport in the transitional reach of flow with vegetation, from the beginning of the reach with vegetation to the established flow with vegetation, are studied by a fundamental experiment and numerical simulation based on a non-equilibrium bed-load model.
