Numerical Model of Granular Medium for the Dynamics of Bed-Load Layer

Abstract: A Lagrangian model for saltating particles is refined to investigate the detailed structure of the bed-load layer where the interparticle collision occurs frequently. Motion of bed-load particles in streamwise and vertical two-dimensional plane is simulated with considering particle/particle inter- actions. Details of the motion of saltating particles are displayed as a series of snapshots of simula- tion, and the existing probability density and the velocity profile of moving particles are predicted. The results of the present simulation are compared with those of the simulation in which interparticle collision is not taken into account to demonstrate the effect of interparticle collision.
