Abstract: Experiments of bed material transport by mud flow were made in a steep open channel with various sands as bed material. The transport rate of coarser sands by mud flow and by clear-water flow were examined. Discharge and concentration in mud flow were also determined. A comparison between coarser-sand transport by mud flow and by clear-water flow was conducted. It was found that mud flow can transport more coarser sand than clear-water flow with an increase of finersand concentration and the ratio of coarser-sand to finer-sand diameter.
