Abstract: A double-layer model is utilized to describe the ve-locity profile of debris flow under steady and uniform flow conditions. In the model the flow profile is divided into two major layers, namely, macro-viscous layer and inertiallayer. Investigation is made concerning the stresses in-volved in each layer when the volume concentration of the solids in the flow is assumed constant. Theoretical veloc-ity profiles are checked with some researchers' experimental data. It is found that the agreement is assuring and looks better than other equations for the velocity distribution.
