Abstract: On November 1st,1990 a landslide glided into the Lucnica Creek, tributary of Savinja River (central Slovenia) and created a natural dam, about 15 meters high. Behind it a lake was formed and the next morning the dam was overtopped, quickly eroded and a wave flooded the village of Luce, situated 1.5 km downstream. The wave was two to three meters high, measured over the level of the terrain at the banks. Fortunately the inhabitants were clever enough to deduct what was happening when the discharge in the stream diminished almost to zero and they moved out of the dangerous region in time.
