Abstract: The occurrence number of landslides due to heavy storns per unit area (250 m × 250 m) is found to follow a negative binomial distribution with parameters k and p. Taking account of the linear relationship between the mean number of landslides and the parameter k, exponential regression models of k are investigated usingthe storm characteristics, acuumulative rainfall depth, duration exceeding a threshold value of rainfall depth, and looal peak rainfall intensities as the trigger factors of landslides. The regression coefficients of model can be oaloulated by the maximum 1ikeli-hood method, and the expeotatlons of the occurrence number, area and volume of landslides are estimated, and a1so, occurrence probability of landslides can be forcasted.
