Abstract: The characteristics of water waves produced by a landslide into an elongated reservoir are ex-amined in the present paper. The evaluation of the wave height and of other parameters is based on the St Venant one-dimensional equations, using a flexible finite differences numerical scheme. Comparisons of results of the present model with experimental measurements, as well as with results of other analytical methods are quite satisfactory. Investigation of the influence of various parameters on the height of the induced waves shows that the mass of the landslide is the most crucial parameter.
