Abstract: A one-dimensional numerical model is developed to simulate the hydrograph of surges on the eastern coast of Taiwan induced by the typhoon. On the basis of the nonlinear interaction among the pressure surge, wind surge and the tide level, the meteorological surge is first calculated in the 1-D model. Then, the setup of typhoon wind wave is estimated on this surge level and superposed as the hydrograph. Since its numerical result gives the reasonable agreement with the observations, this model is considered as an efficient method to give the fast prediction of the nearshore hydrograph during the typhoon attacking.
