A New Approach to Extension of Effective Test Area in Multi-Directional Wave Basin

Abstract: The effective test area where target multi directional waves can be reproduced in a basin is limited to a small triangle area because of the finite of generator width. The directional spreading function of generated waves varies from the target in the outside of the area. The varied di rect ion-al spreadings, however, can be estimated in the numerical model proposed in the paper. A hydraulic model test of harbor tranquility is carried out in the outside of the effective generation area employing the estimated di rectional spreadings. The results demonstrate possibility of the practical extension of the effective test area.
