Abstract: Mud mass transport plays an important role on the geological processes in coasts and river mouths. This paper first describes the results of experiments on the rheological properties of mud. An empirical rheology model is proposed on the basis of the experiments. Then, a numerical model which can predict the wave attenuation as well as the bed mud motion is developed based on the rheology equation. Numerical simulation for the motions of one-and two-layered mud beds is carried out and the results are compared with laboratory data.
