Abstract: In front of the outlet of a power plant sited on a sandy open beach, seabed scour due to submerged discharge and large waves causes the instability of coastal structures such as a discharge outlet. In this paper, a new countermeasure "SPAC" (Spreading Armor Coat) against the above scour is proposed on the basis of hydraulic model tests. When compared to conventional methods, the "SPAC" is an effective and economical countermeasure by replacing the seabed in front of the out let with riprap rocks and forming a riprapping armor coat, thus preventing scour.
