Abstract: Based upon hydraulic experiments, formulas are given in power laws of a surf similarity parameter to estimate wave run-up height on gentle-slope seawalls which are recently preferred in Japan as one of countermeasures against beach erosion. Effects of armor units and underlaid gravels are taken in the formulas in terms of coefficients and powers, which are functions of the type of wave breaking and the Reynolds number. These empirical formulas are applied wi thin errors of 10 %.
