Abstract: Details of a field study conducted to investigate the generation and propagation of waves created by a manmade rockfall of 16'000 m～3 limestone in a Swiss lake are presented. The characteristic param eters of the rockfall and the induced gravity waves were measured and are compared with the linear wave theory.
