Abstract: Heated discharge from plant may cause thermal pollution. Heated effluent discharging into a receiving water body degrades the physical, biological and chemical properties of the water body. In this paper, the authors summarize some engineering measures for preventing and remedying the thermal pollution. An intensive study both in engineering and biological aspects of thermal pollution is needed. Then, based on the comprehensive understanding of the effects of the wraste-heat discharge, a thermal pollution standard of our nation which will be a compromise between industrial development and environment protection can be proposed.
