Abstract: Bubble plumes have been investigated for their multiple engineering applications,i.e.,bubblewave-breakers,antifreezing measures in harbours, destratification of lakes. Usuallythe stratification of the natural water can be approximated by a two-layered stepstratification type. The warmer surface mixing layer water is separated from the colder waterbelow by a thermocline.Hence for the successful application of bubble plumes as destratificationsystems, the behaviours of bubble plume in a two-layer step stratified environment should becarefully investigated. The aim of this study is,thus, elucidating properties of the bubble plume in two-layeredenvironments,and obtaining the condition for the eficient destratification operation.
