Abstract: In order to improve the design and operation of the inclined plate settler in water and wastewater treatment plants, steady state clear thin layer flow (particle-free) rising under the down facing surface of the inclined plates in the suspension has been modeled and theoretically analyzed. The flow is driven by settling convection due to the density difference between the clear liquid and the suspension. The clear water production rate predicted by the analysis agrees with the empirical result known as Boycott Effect.
