Abstract: Climatic change (greenhouse effect) is likely to occur due to increase of Carbon Dioxide (CO_2) and other trace gasses in the atmosphere and this change mainly affect water resources management. In this paper greenhouse effect on rainfall and runoff of a catchment in tropical Sri Lanka was analyzed according to the GCM's projections at double CO_2 condition. Two future climatic scenarios were considered based on two selected GCM's outputs and compared with other climatic scenario which represented the present conditions. Greenhouse effect at double CO_2 condition altered timing and magnitude of rainfall and runoff. Daily and monthly peak of rainfall and runoff were likely to increase projecting high floods than present. Reduction in low flows in dry seasons projected more severe droughts. But changes in mean annual precipitation and runoff were very small.
