Abstract: Time resolved point measurements of flow quantities can give the Eularian signature of the turbulent flow field, and it is not possible to reconstruct the Lagrangian distribution of the structures within the flow. Flow visualization on the other hand can record the geometrical location of a flow structure as a function of time. The point is made that the two methods should be used simultaneously to combine the more qualitative understanding gained from flow visualization with the quantitative data from flow measurements.
