Impacts of Stream Modification on Habitat Component and Biota in Tagawa River

Abstract: Typical river imporvement methods were applied to the Tagawa River,Tochigi prefecture,Japan.1.25km were straightened and widened the river to reduce flooding problems. An investigation of the available habitat and the biota was made to grasp the biological ffect ofthe modification.This study discuss the small river modification method to preserve the fish habitat.There are a few studies which observed a relationship between riparian habitat and change of fish for astream modification in Japan.
