User-Developer Interaction Aspects of Gedap Software

Abstract: GEDAP is a comprehensive software package for support of physical hydraulic modelling with particularemphasis on wave generation and analysis in laboratory basins and flumes.Originally developed forinternal use by the NRC Hydraulics Laboratory,this software has recently been licensed as a commercialproduct and is currently also being used at twelve external laboratories in various countries throughoutthe world.Acting in the dual role of both developers and users,we have gained considerable experiencein user-devleoper dialog as this software has gradually evolved over a period of twenty years.This papersummarizes some of our experiences with various aspects including user-software interaction,documentation,validation and training.
