Flood Forecas Ting Systems in Spain

Abstract: In spain,floods caused by rivers have proved to be a serious economic and socialproblem and constitute the greatest natural risk for people in numerous zones ofthe country.To illustrate this point,we only have to take a look at the historyof catastrophic floods in order to see that"La Huerta del Segura"has experiencedfloods on an average of once every eleven years,sometimes causing more than athousand deaths.In sevilla there have been serious floods once every five years,in Malaga,once every eight years,in_the Júcar basin once every eight years,whilethe average for the Eastern Pyrenees Basin is once every four years(1,2,3,4)。Thefirst table shows the most catastrophic floods over the last thirty years.Thesefloods have caused a total of 1.463 deaths and damage for a value of more thanhundreds of thousands of millions of pesetas.
