Abstract: This paper is mainly concerned with operational prevention offlood damage for two major dams in New South Wales,Australia.In one case introduction of structural addition and earlywarning systems,the latter eventually rejected.The other toprovide greater safety by construction of major structuralalterations and finally possible additions to the dam,carriedout in stages though the high hazard category remains.
