Modified Godunov Method for Dambreak Flows

Abstract: Commonly used methods for computation of instantaneous dambreak flows cannot cope efficiently with mixed regimes and strong shocks in nonprismatic channels. A new method for one-dimensional flows is developed, using two variants of the Godunov scheme: one based on linear, another on piecewise parabolic interpolation (PPM). The proposed methods agree well with the analytical solution for simplified cases, and perform better than the other compared methods for realistic cases.
